A reply to negative e-mails about immigrants

Maybe I haven't made myself clear

This is a response to those of you who (unbelieveably) continue to feel confident about bombarding me with propaganda on immigration issues. From this point forward I will send these words to everyone on your e-mail list as soon as this thoughtless junk mail arrives. I'd reprint the original mail here but frankly, I don't want that sort of unfounded hate speech to appear on this page. Suffice it to say, it began with a rant about singing our national anthem in Spanish. What follows is not directed toward real conservative thinkers, just the ones who continue to make all of us look bad.

To Whom it concerns:

First off, I am not a hatemonger so I’d like to be taken off this list if it isn’t too much trouble. I don’t want anyone who reads this gunk, to think I agree with a single word of it. For one thing, immigration doesn’t just involve Spanish speaking people. In my neck of the woods, we speak forty-four languages. English is one of those languages but it certainly isn’t required.

You see, we have a lot of grandmas here and great-uncles who spent far too much of their early years fighting things like starvation and poison gas; rapists and machetes and bullets. Oh and malaria. We have families whose dads baked to death in the desert sun and young men, orphans, who walked a thousand miles across Africa, to keep from being hacked to death in someone's civil war. They spent their adolescence some of them, crawling on their knees, not driving around town in Mom's SUV or going to the prom but rather, watching their friends drown or get eaten by lions. We here in south Nashville like to let those guys acclimate in their own time, if it's all the same to you.

We have women here, who risked their lives to flee from men who maimed them in front of their children, men they believed would kill them if they stayed in their own countries.

All of these people suffered shame and misery at the hands of others. They did not come here to get your Social Security. They came to save their own lives or the lives of their families. They score high on character and low on hypocritical bullshit and I'm happy to call them neighbors. They can sing the national anthem in Pig Latin if they want to. Their respective languages are music to me and that my friends, is what America is all about. It was from the very beginning.

Immigrants, refugees and the Hispanic community in particular, have been completely misrepresented by the likes of people who send this stuff around the internet. Their message beats a mindless drum that's filled with meanness and untruths. Clearly, the author doesn’t know any Spanish-speaking people or even have a basic understanding about what's going on in the world.

One more thing and then we can move on to my public execution or whatever. Those of you who call yourselves Democrats, who continue to send me this crap - should either wake up or get out of my party. We don't accept hatemongers and bigots in the Democratic party though it shouldn't be that difficult to locate one that does.
